Campus surveillance and a rebuilt computer lab for a Chandigarh school

The problem
What the client was dealing with
The school had cameras at the main gate only, a computer lab where roughly a third of the machines were unusable at any one time, and a fee counter that slowed to a crawl every admission season. Parents were asking direct questions about supervision in the corridors and nobody could answer them from footage.
What we did
The work, in the order it happened
Every line below is something that was specified, installed and handed over.

Surveyed the campus and marked camera positions against the boundary wall, every block entrance and the corridor each block empties into
- 02
Installed IP cameras with lens choices set for the actual light at each position, including the low-light gate and the covered corridors
- 03
Sized the recorder and disks for a retention period that outlasts a full term rather than the fifteen days the previous recorder held
- 04
Rebuilt the computer lab on one standard image, so a machine a student has broken is re-imaged in minutes instead of individually diagnosed

Separated the student, staff and fee-counter networks onto their own VLANs over the existing cabled backbone
- 06
Scheduled the cabling and lab rebuild into the vacation so no practical exam was affected
The outcome
What changed
TBC: the measurable outcome — camera count installed, retention days achieved, lab downtime before and after, and whether the school will allow us to name it
We publish outcome figures only once the client has confirmed them and agreed to their use. Until then this stays marked rather than estimated.
